Project Overview
The Auckland Airport development represents a major infrastructure project focused on efficiency, precision, and sustainability at scale. Delivered across multiple construction zones, the project incorporates Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) as part of a forward-thinking approach to modern construction, supporting both performance and environmental outcomes.
Red Stag TimberLab (RSTL) supplied CLT across five zones, contributing to a staged construction programme that prioritised efficient delivery, streamlined installation, and reduced carbon impact.
The Challenge
This project required the coordinated delivery of significant volumes of CLT across multiple zones within a live infrastructure environment. Maintaining programme certainty, manufacturing efficiency, and sequencing across parallel construction stages was critical to overall success.
With multiple stakeholders and delivery phases, precision in planning, fabrication, and logistics was essential to ensure continuity between zones while supporting an accelerated build programme.
Red Stag TimberLab's Involvement
RSTL played a key role in the supply of CLT across all five zones of the development. Through close collaboration with the project team, RSTL ensured that CLT design, manufacturing, and delivery aligned with the project’s staging requirements.
Across the project, RSTL supplied:
- Over 1,869 m³ of CLT
- 391 CLT panel elements
Digital Fabrication
RSTL’s digital design and fabrication processes supported efficient production and reliable supply, enabling smooth installation on-site and contributing to overall programme certainty.
The staged nature of the project was successfully managed through coordinated manufacturing and delivery, demonstrating RSTL’s ability to maintain consistency and performance across large, multi-phase developments.
Sustainability and Renewable Energy
Red Stag TimberLab operates as New Zealand’s lowest-carbon CLT supplier through its self-sufficient renewable energy systems.
By using wood by-products as biofuel and generating thermal energy for timber drying, Red Stag minimises waste and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. This closed-loop system supports both operational efficiency and environmental performance while contributing renewable energy back into the national grid.

The Auckland Airport project delivered strong outcomes across both construction performance and sustainability.
