Project Description
YELLOW TREE HOUSE RESTAURANT
Warkworth, New Zealand
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
CREDITS: Pacific Environments
Created as part of an advertising campaign, the architects designed the concept which was nature-inspired; pod-shaped form which was reminiscent of a chrysalis protecting an emerging butterfly. With the architect’s drawings TimberLab (previously McIntosh) began the process of bringing the fins to life, creating a work of art which is the curved laminated timber ribs and the external walls of the restaurant. This is another example of the manufacturer helping to bring the designer’s concept to reality.
AWARDS: 2010 Small project NZ Architectural Awards / 2009 Outdoor Infrastructure Winner, NZ Timber Design Awards / 2009 Finals of World Architectural Awards, Barcelona.
