PIKO WHOLEFOODS

Project Description

CREDITS:  Architects: Solarchitect / Contractors: Hanham & Philp

A finalist from the 2017 Timber Design Awards; the simplicity of straight Glulam beams and posts provides a real depth of character in the rebuild of the new facility for Piko Wholefoods. Badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake, the new building preserves the artisan nature of this organic food store.

Architect Russell Devlin of Solarchitect used TimberLab’s Glulam beams, posts and Bondek flooring to recreate the old-world charm of this iconic store.

The clean modern lines of this structure were achieved by the components manufactured by TimberLab with all connections pre-fitted, using up to the minute CNC craftsmanship.

Close co-operation between the architects, contractors and TimberLab made sure the new extension fitted neatly into the remaining scarred earthquake-damaged concrete building.
