The Project

The stunning feature Glulam Portals in this clubhouse design stand out against the clean white interior, creating a modern and relaxed space which compliments the seaside environment and intended building use.

TimberLab was thrilled to be a part of this community project, an important facility upgrade for the Sunset Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and the greater Port Waikato community.

The structural system is made entirely from timber. The exposed Glulam portals are combined with LVL bracing portals, a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) floor plate, Glulam bearers and SED piles; all forming a complete engineered timber solution. The perfect choice for the severe seaside environment of the site.

TimberLab’s experience and capability meant we were able to offer the client / builder a co-ordinated supply of prefabricated Glulam, LVL and CLT structural components; all cut on our large 5-axis CNC processing centres from an accurate 3D computer fabrication model.

The main Glulam portals span 20m in length and were supplied and transported from Auckland with one-piece cranked rafters to provide a gentle curved apex with no connection required. Tapered legs and exposed hub connectors finish these portals off architecturally whilst telling the structural story.
