Project Description
RIDING ARENA
Ballarat, Melbourne, Australia
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
CREDITS: Timber Engineered Structures
Timberlab’s design and supply package was inexpensive and effectively delivered this large equestrian project across the Tasman Sea.
When Bruce Bell of Timber Engineered Structures was approached to provide a purpose-built Riding Arena for Ballarat University in Victoria, he called on the long association TES has had representing TimberLab (previously McIntosh) in Australia.
TimberLab came up with a design and supply package from NZ that was more economical than alternative options, arranging all transport from factory to wharf in Melbourne.
The 43m free-spanning arches spaced at 8m centres cover an area 80m long. The pre-finished light weight timber arches arrived on site in three sections and were quickly assembled and erected.
Made from selected quality NZ Radiata pine this option provided a sustainable and renewable solution for the University. In a world where there is increasing pressure to consider environmental impact in the choice of construction materials, TimberLab is achieving notable successes with their ability to provide cost-effective Glulam solutions.
