New Zealand’s biggest saw miller, Red Stag Timber chose TimberLab as the manufacturer of the massive Glulam portal frames when it came to the construction of the first stage of their world scale “Super Mill” in Rotorua.
TimberLab partnered with Red Stag and Hawkins Construction to provide large scale timber portals and roof/wall framing elements. Glulam members up to 32m long and 1000mm deep were transported from Auckland to Rotorua by truck. With the lightweight nature of Glulam, large roof sections were assembled on ground before being lifted into position using multiple cranes. All timber used in the project was produced from the current sawmill’s operations.
This building is great example of an efficient, cost effective and sustainable alternative to traditional steel framed industrial buildings.
The $120 million project, once completed will increase annual production at the site from 450,000 m3 of timber to 700,000 over the next 5 years.
