Timber’s light weight nature and natural energy resilience make timber an ideal material for seismic resistant commercial structures in the Christchurch rebuild. Projects like reconstruction of the two storey 6,000 m2 Trimble Navigation facility, which was the largest pre-stressed laminated timber structure by floor area, clearly demonstrate TimberLab’s capability. Factory fitted post tension LVL beams and columns provide portal action while longitudinal stability comes from full height tensioned LVL timber rocking shear walls.
Contractors commented on the benefits of speedy erection, a quiet construction site and ease of fixing secondary members directly into timber.
With the added benefit of sustainability, TimberLab’s accurate prefabrication ensures maximum benefits to contractors.
