PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The simple elegance of Glulam post and beam construction is demonstrated in the main structure for the Devonport Library.  All members were prepared using TimberLab’s CNC capability. Twin rafters are bolted onto Glulam columns with clearly expressed metalwork brackets connecting bracing struts.  CNC detailing means that these simple connections are neatly presented and clearly demonstrate how the structure works.
The timber theme has been very effectively maintained throughout the finishing of the building. Internal walls and furnishings make the most of the natural warmth and attraction of timber. With some of the Glulam columns exposed through to the outside, the external timber cladding completes innovative impact of this striking facility.
